Revolutionizing Fashion Accessories with Rotatable Lenses and Frames

Since ancient times, people have gazed at the night sky, forming a mystical bond between the cosmos and mankind. This fascination has given birth to the stories of the 12 constellations, each representing a different personality type. Over time, these constellations have become a standard for categorizing individuals. However, Xu Fangzhou's "Constellation" project challenges this norm, encouraging individuals to break free from these shackles and express themselves without restraint.

The "Constellation" project is a conceptual fashion accessory design, primarily featuring an eye-wear piece composed of a simplified construct with specialized rotatable lenses and frames. The idea of "rotation" is transformed into several layers of lenses, carved as a composition of constellations. By rotating, the pattern of a specific constellation is correctly displayed, serving as a manifesto to express an individual's unique personality.

Xu Fangzhou's design stands out due to its unique properties. The eye-wear piece is realized through 3D modeling, rendering, and handmade techniques, using materials such as aluminum, acrylic, and brass. The technical specifications of the design are a width of 143 mm, a depth of 130 mm, and a height of 55 mm. The main part of the design functions like single-lens glasses combined with a manual mechanism.

The most significant challenge faced during the design process was the design and realization of the mechanism. Despite this, Xu Fangzhou was able to overcome this hurdle, resulting in a design that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and innovative.

For his outstanding design, Xu Fangzhou was awarded Silver in the A' Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate exceptional expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
